Ravelympics! Feb. 23rd, 2010 @ 12:02 pm
I promised myself I wouldn't cry! Oh, such an honor...oh, thank you to my fans...

I actually managed to finish a Ravelympics project!

You don't understand, this is huge.

The finished product, which is a gift for my mom's friend Jeannie, who is a seriously nice lady:

Illusion and Raverlympics Jan. 18th, 2010 @ 12:24 pm
Hey, I have a knitting journal. It's so easy to forget that. X-)

So, I've become addicted to Illusion knitting. It's not even funny. I desparately want to learn how to make the graphs myself, but the "instructions" I've come across already are less than helpful. I've found plenty of patterns that are great in and of themselves, but because I'm me, I would like to be able to put anything I want on there.

Such as something for the Raverlympics. Is that even spelled right?

This is not something I would normally participate in, because it just seems out of my league. But the team name alone made me jump on board. I would like to find a Buffy-related knitting pattern to start off with, but the things I've found are beyond my realm of knitting abilities.

Which sucks.

A lot.

Pics of the two illusion scarves I've made so far:

And my cat, TK, who hates being left out.

Currently working on a Fleur De Lis scarf for my mom, because she loves them.

I am not cut out to be a Hooker Aug. 26th, 2009 @ 06:10 am
So, I really would like to learn how to crochet.

The idea of it is rather boggling. I could understand the logistics of knitting before I started. It's moving yarn from one needle to another, adding loops as you go along to continue it on.

There's an analogy I could use, but it's trapped in the part of my brain not hyped up on Wellbutrin to fight the nicotine cravings.

But crochet just makes no sense to me. And I got a copy of The Happy Hooker from the library, because the original Stitch 'n' Bitch was extremely helpful when I was first learning to knit.

WTF? Crochet is hard! I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and it makes me desparately want internet at home so I can look at the dang ol', dang ol' videos that they MUST have online somewhere to figure it out.

Seriously, WTH? It's one needle! How hard can it be?!

The brain, it has taken over Aug. 5th, 2009 @ 06:18 am
I'm going to frog my ::shrug::.

I took too long to get back to it, and now I've completely lost all of my nerve. I don't think I would've been able to pull it off, honestly. The body of it, I could've done. But I still haven't mastered picking up stitches, and a part of me believes I would've ruined some really beautiful (::coughandexpensivecough::) yarn.

On the plus side, my work no longer blocks Flickr! So I get to actually look at pretty things on Ravelry now. They also no longer block Fail Blog, Pundit Kitchen, and I Can Haz Cheeseburger, which means I get to look at pretty yarn and giggle.

Life is good.

Taking suggestions for something to make with my pretty former shrug yarn. Something that doesn't require DPNs. Still haven't braved those. I did play with circular needles, and managed to figure out what I was doing wrong that was making me so irritated (it turned out I was casting on wrong...at least, for circulars, anyway). Still haven't mastered those, trying to find a pattern that would let me play with them without making me throw them angrily across the room.

Yarn love Jun. 6th, 2009 @ 10:33 am
Awwwwwwwwww.

So, I've become fairly good friends with Diana on Ravelry. We banter on the Games forum, and she's just as sweet and funny as can be.

I'd made a comment in one of the games that I'm poor and can't afford to appreciate real yarn, but am happy with my acrylic. Well, for the most part. :-D

She sent me yarn. She sent me pretty yarn. She sent me Noro yarn.

I don't have pictures, but she sent me this and this and this and I feel way specialier than anyone else ever.

I have absolutely NO CLUE what I'm going to make with them, and my brain might explode any second from trying to think of something, but dude. How sweet is she, seriously?

And she's diabetic, so I can't make her thank you cookies. Which makes me have to think even harder for thank you love. Darnit.

I am such a freaking slacker, man. Do you know what I've knit recently?

A SCARF.

And that scarf was started when I was in New York, watching Dollhouse. LAST MONTH.

I am such a chickenshit for not continuing the ::shrug::. It sits there, in my bedroom, staring at me with accusing eyes.

I'm getting a shade bit braver on Ravelry, specifically the boards. Not brave enough to communicate in an actual, you know, knitting group. But I do talk about Dollhouse a lot...and I play on the games board constantly to alleviate boredom at work.

But I like to look at what groups other people are in. Just to see if I'd be interested in snooping.

Is this REALLY necessary? I mean, are you so in love with your Twitter that you have to have a community to discuss it with others who are also in love with it?

I just...don't get it. Sigh.

I'm labunnywtf on Twitter, by the way. Shut up.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, GLOSS!!!!!

I remembered yesterday, and kept reminding myself to post, but we were busy and then huge biggidy wiggidy's came to the building (like, the owner of all the Textrons ever...), and I was getting a little more annoyed every time I thought of it because I hadn't done it yet and I love youuuuuuuuuuu!

» I weep for the future
The future of our youth right here, people.

I love animals, big, round, fluffy & scaly.
I had a pet bird “Charlie” in 08 and died from a stroke on Monday 5 1 09
on Tuesday i got a new baby bird i called him “willow”
for more on willow and Charlie go to my blog.

i am totally addicted to twilight vampires and death and emos and blood and night an death and twilight

Did she mention she likes death?

She likes math, though.

That's positive, right?

SHE'S 11.

::slams head into the wall a few times to make it feel better::

ETA: Jesus fucking christ, she's HOMESCHOOLED. People who won't send their children to school for their own personal reasons are allowing them to read Twilight?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

» No new knitting news
Nothing new in the knitting department (I have NOT given up on the shrug, but I really am chickening out...) (I'm knitting a scarf, though...), but...

I bought a house.

It's purty.
» Poor ::shrug::
I'm still working on le shrug, but I've never had a project take so long. Plus it requires picking up 300 stitches around the edge with a long circular needle, and if I were to be honest with myself, I'm scared shitless.

Does anything think it's possible for my dumb ass to knit this without having it look like shit? Keeping in mind that I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY bad at using two yarn colors in one pattern? You don't even wanna know what the geetar pillow looks like on the inside. That took some finagling.

I really really like the symbol for Serenity, not just because of fandom, but because. Well. I kinda need some Serenity right now. So I think it would be neat to have it on a scarf. But I also think I still kinda suck at knitting anything complicated.

I need more people around to teach me this kinda crap. Self-teaching only goes so far.

Hi! I remember I have a knitting journal, I swear I do.

I made fingerless mitts! And a hat! Which I didn't queue when I printed the pattern, and I can't find the name, but it's really cute, even if I never wear hats!

Still haven't gotten the hang of double-pointeds. Though I think I might be able to if I ever picked them up and tried....

Annnnd I'm going to bed. Love!

I don't think that's right. I'll have to preview it.

Um, don't click on that if you're weak of stomach. That was removed from mine.

13 centimeter ovarian cyst plus ovary. A week ago yesterday.

You'd THINK someone who's laid up in bed for a week would have oh so much time to knit, right?

WRONG. I can't get into a comfortable position. My ::shrug:: is SO FREAKIN' NEGLECTED. I knit ONE row, and threw the needles down in disgust.

So annoying.

Perfect. Perfect perfect perfect love him HAVE NOT HELD HIM going insane.

I re-made trauma bunny. This one is far less scary looking. I blame the yarn on the last one. ::cough::

This is the pattern I bought at McNeedles. This is what the pretty pretty Alpaca Sox is going to make.

I HAVE AN LYS NOW!

I feel so special. ::snifflesnort::

Oh, and the yarn I bought is sooo pretty. And WOW, real yarn is expensive. I kinda knew that already, which helped me not be a yarn snob (Hobby Lobby yarn = on sale for $2.99 at all times). But I did buy really really really really really really reallllyyy pretty yarn, Alpaca Sox. It's so soft. And pretty.

And I'm actually going to make something to be worn on my person. This little fact scares the everliving CRAP OUT OF ME.

But the owner of that store was really really nice and said if I screw up, I can come there and she will attempt to help me.

::does the dance of 'I have an LYS, I have an LYS'::
» Rock out with your socks out
I need to learn how to knit socks so I can actually put the subject line to good use.

Have I mentioned that knitting with two different yarns in one row SUCKS REALLY REALLY BAD?

However...

Lisa doth love the poncho. Which makes me happier than a pig in poo, or something.

She's wearing it wrong in the picture, I don't care.

The dog did not care much for it, though. She spent a full two minutes sniffing and inspecting. I think she was looking for the head.

» Red and white is purty
In no way do these resemble Converse.

I kinda figured they wouldn't when I started on them. I was hoping there would be *some* resemblance, but alas. No. And doing two colors in one row SUCKS MY ASS OUT. God, it's just...bah!

They're still cute, though. And as soon as I get smaller DPN's, they'll have laces.

I totally made an I-cord. I never could understand how to before (proving I'm too much of an idiot to make an idiot cord...yes...I'm okay with that...), but I finally stopped thinking about it and just did it. And I-cord is totally awesome and now I want to use it for many many things.

Probably because it's the only thing I seem to know how to do with DPN's.

I'm now working on this awesome toy/pillow. I found it in a library book (woot woot library), and said, "It shall be mine. Ohhhh, yes. it shall be mine."

And then I'll make one for the baby...:)

However.

What do you think my chances are of stitching a Van Halen logo on the corner of the guitar? I'm thinking slim to none. Not even working it into the pattern, but doing that double stitch, over the original knit thing.

Because really. Look at that thing. I even went to that knitpro site and made a chart with it to see if it was possible, and WOW.

» Frickin' poncho
I finally (finally finally) finished the (as I call it) breast-feedin' poncho.

Thank frickin' god. That and the blanket were the two biggest projects I was worried about. Most anything else for the baby can wait until after he's born, so it's not a rush.

It came out rather nicely, if I say so myself. My electricity was out, and I didn't want to sit outside in the 100 degree heat, so I sat inside in the 93 degree heat and finished all the sewing. I couldn't really SEE it to say if it looked nice, but considering I realized I sewed the other one together incorrectly, it's a damn shade nicer than the first!

I'm making a nice easy hat for my coworker's little girl, using the same fluffy yarn. She was at one of our study groups, and she liked the ball I had, so I told her I'd make her a hat.

I finally fixed my "account" with the library (seven years of owing them money...thank god they cap it off), so I've been checking out knitting books. It's making me realize that if I don't learn how to use DPN's, I'm never ever ever ever ever going to be able to make everything I want to make.

That really sucks, I might add.

I also don't believe I will ever learn Intarsia, or Fair Isle, or whateverthehell it is that makes pretty pretty pictures in knitting.

That makes me very sad.

But really, what the hell does "carry the yarn up" mean? I mean, doesn't that mean you're going to have strings on the back of your knitting? While that might work with a sweater, I'm not ever planning on making a sweater. I can't measure out 2 cups of water for a recipe, there's no way I'll be able to measure things to actually WEAR.

Sigh. I'm destined to make scarves for the rest of my life, I just know it.
» What the french, toast?!
Dude, I hate double pointed needles.

I've picked them up precisely ONCE since I started knitting, played with them a total of a minute, maybe minute and a half, but I despise them.

FIVE REASONS WHY I DESPISE DP NEEDLES

1) They come in sets of fours AND fives.

2) All educational videos regarding double-pointed needles are SO CONFUSING, and I promptly forget them as soon as I pick UP the needles and start practicing.

3) They think they're all superior, just because they have no ass. SUPERIORITY COMPLEX! LOOK IT UP, MUDDAFUCKAS! Yes, blue DPs in my bag, I am LOOKING AT YOU!

4) EVERY SINGLE FLIPPING DESIGNER is just wetting their panties over how EASY they are to knit with, and how FAST they are, and we don't LIIIKE knitting things flat, and we haaaaaaaate you Bunny so everything is going to be on DPN. HA HA HA HA HA HA!

5) Because I am COMPLETELY irrational and I will never ever ever learn because I'm a stupid, stupid, stupid monkey.

Blanket of dooooooooooooom.

And my really cute monkey bra in the foreground, which I couldn't crop out without messing up the blanket picture. Enh.
» (No Subject)
Damn, it restored draft from my last entry, which was like, months ago.

Good on insane journal.

I have found hell. 'Tis a baby blanket.

It's not coming out the way I want it to. Because I can't sew for shit.

But I refuse to give up, and have instructed Lisa to LIE TO ME and tell me that she loves it, then throw it in the back of a closet. She doesn't know what it is yet, but she's very good about these sorts of things.

Okay, back to sewing.
